Welcome to Hahn-Schickard: The research center for innovative microsystems technology. With a team of over 300 employees, we transform ideas into cross-industry solutions - from conception to production at four locations in Baden-Württemberg.

At our Freiburg site, the emphasis is on developing analytical solutions in microsystems technology, particularly for point-of-care diagnostics.

In the division Microfluidic Platforms, we are offering a position for a student (m/f/d) at our Freiburg location, starting earliest in September 2024.

Mandatory internship Liquid-Biopsy on microfluidic plattform (m/f/x)

Your Tasks

  • In the field of liquid biopsy, you will support our team in developing methods for biomarker extraction from blood samples for cancer diagnostics.
  • Specifically, you will conduct a series of experiments to extract extracellular vesicles from plasma.
  • In doing so, you will investigate chromatography and filtration processes with the aid of microfluidic cartridges.
  • Analyze the extracted vesicles using biochemical methods.
  • You will be closely supported by our interdisciplinary team (engineering sciences, life sciences).
  • Plan and document the experiments and present the results.

Your Profil

  • You are currently enrolled in a degree program in biochemistry, biology, bioanalytics, biophysics, molecular medicine, life sciences, or a related natural science field and are required to complete a mandatory internship as part of your studies.
  • You are characterized by an independent, systematic, and meticulous approach to your work. You plan and document experiments and present results.
  • You are motivated to learn new methods, familiarize yourself with new subject areas, and are willing to work in a multidisciplinary research field.
  • Knowledge of chromatography methods, immunoassays (ELISA), protein analysis, etc. is an advantage but not a prerequisite.
  • Good German and/or English skills

Our offer to you

  • Innovative working environment: State-of-Art research institute with close links to industry
  • Future-proof career: a wide range of possible assignments during and after your studies
